Browse the whole site as there are Tropical Art Paintings to satisfy many different tastes in Art. I have a wide range of tropical and Mediterranean  works of Fine Art Paintings, as well as Tropical Underwater scenes.  Water Chart Art has become one of my best selling items. I use a local waterchart as my canvas and create a scene that takes a 2-D map and makes it into a 3-D work of Art.

Florida Tropical Art offers  different ways to order your artwork to fit your needs. My hope is to help you find a way to enjoy this art as much as I do. With that in mind, for those who like to collect art there is a list a list of the originals still available for purchase.

Once my paintings are complete I take them to a professional photographer and have them photographed.  After my work is photographed I meet with the photographer and color match my work.  This process is often called making an artist proof of my work.  After the artist proof is signed off on, my work is then ready for reproduction.  I then make what is called a Giclee of my work which you can read more about in the link "frequently asked questions."

The Giclee of my work can be purchased on Canvas or artist paper.  The canvas can then be hand embellished and glazed for an additional price but is beautifully perfect as it is as well.  The artist paper Giclee would be framed behind glass where the canvas would be stretched and framed.

Either can be purchased with frame or rolled and in a tube to frame yourself.  I can usually save you a good amount of money on you're framing although if you order it framed the shipping is a bit more expensive.  Ordering a canvas unframed with also require stretching the canvas which is a common procedure by any framer.

Frame options are available to view at www.framedesigns.us

If you have a custom painting in mind or would like your own artistic water chart, I customize art for your chart through a series of email communications.

Feel free to email me with any questions regarding placing an order.

Water Charts are one of my favorite ways to express myself through Art

For many years I have been collecting water charts.  I take these charts, paint a local scene on them befoe they go off to my photographer for my artist proof on the painting.  These water charts are sold as a  part of a limited edition numbered series.  They are genreally offered in 3 sizes.  The original size which varies per chart but are often up to 46 inches unframed on a long side. 24x36 which is considered my medium size and the last being a 16x24.   These sizes do not include the frame. Depending which frame and matting you choose, the framing usually adds up to 3 inches per side.

  • Q: what are Giclee's and numbered series?

There are sevearal advantages to artist in making Giclee prints from their art work.  In giclee printing, no screen or other mechanical devices are used and therefore there is no visible dot screen pattern. The image is color matched by the artist, with this printing process the colors of each peace  reflect the tones and  hues of the original painting. Giclee (pronounced Gee’clay) is a French term meaning to spray or squirt, which is how an inkjet printer works. However, it is not the same as a standard desktop inkjet printer, and is much larger. Giclee prints are a little over a metre wide. The ink that is used is a light fast quality ink, often having a  life of 25 years.

Giclee prints are often printed on either artist archival paper or on Canvas.  With canvas being the more expensive of the two options.  Often artist will create a series for their work allowing a limited number of these works to be sold.  This is called a limitted edition series.  When the number is fulfilled, the artist stops producing that series to help increase the value for those who have bought it.

  • Q: How long does it take to finish a painting

Inspiration can do amazing things to people.  I often will take a photo or see a sunset that inspires me, next thing I know I am at my easle and on my way to a new inspiration.  This process varies depending on the conplexity of the piece.  I paint in oils which as an advantage because the colors blend to make beautiful tones that otherwise you might have to mix individually to achieve.  The hard part is that if you are not careful you can end up with mud on your canvas.  Because of this, it is important to let your layers dry inbetween applications.  Depending on the complexity of the piece some tropical paintings require severa layers.

The applications process also is a factor on the drying time.  Often when enphasizing colors I will apply color with a pallette knife leaving larger streakes of color.  These larger thicker areas of color will ultimately extend the drying time.

With all this said most of my Tropical Paintings take an avarage of 3 months start to finish.
